Want to quit your 9 to 5 and travel full time? It may seem like a far off impossible dream, but it’s 100% achievable! We all dream about seeing more of the world, but with limited funds and PTO, it’s hard to make travel happen.
Starting an online business can give you the flexibility to travel and live wherever you want. No more commuting, nagging bosses, or scheduled vacation time. As an online entrepreneur, you have the freedom to travel as far and as often and as you want!
This post is your roadmap for escaping the 9 to 5 grind and building a life of location independence. Whether you can’t wait to escape your soul killing corporate job, or you’re just curious about what else is out there, read on to learn more about the laptop lifestyle.
My Entrepreneurship Story
I’ve always been a go-getter. Straight A student, type A, Enneagram 3, you name it.
I checked all the boxes and did all the things. I got a job right out of college in IT sales, and for a while it was great–I was promoted quickly and made over six figures by age 24. Sounds like the dream, right?
But once I hit that level of success, I started to look around me and realize…is this all there is? I was living the “American dream,” but it came at a steep cost. I was working 24/7 and had only 8 PTO days a year. I knew there was something better out there and I had to get out.
So I made my escape plan (the same plan I’m now going to share with you!).
Quitting My Job to Move to Thailand
I worked my job for another year while I learned more about business and saved up. The one thing I couldn’t get was TIME so I decided my best move was to quit my 9-5, move abroad where I truly wanted to be, teach English online to make ends meet, and have all the time I needed to figure it out. Teaching English wasn’t even close to my dream job, but it was a step in the right direction of having a freedom lifestyle!

Moving to Thailand gave me back my time. I only worked 10 hours a week and had the rest of my days to work on my business. The only problem was…I didn’t have a business. I had a series of experiments. I tried everything from ecommerce to dropshipping to Facebook ads and nothing seemed to stick.
Finally I decided to start my own design business. I had no design skills but I was excited about it and started teaching myself on Youtube. I made a professional website, set up my systems, and within 30 days put myself out there as a full fledged designer. And I made over $5k in my first month (you can read more about how I did it in this post).
This is when everything started to change.
As my design business continued to grow, I kept having people inquire as to how I marketed myself online and grew my business so fast and that was when I realized two things.
- That so many passionate people had skills but had no clue how to run a business
- That my actual zone of genius was sales, systems and marketing
Thus, I decided to launch a coaching business and teach other women how to build six figure online businesses so they can live their own freedom lifestyle–whether that means quitting their job to travel full time or just having more time for their family and hobbies.
I have built a near million dollar business in less than two years and since then I’ve lived in Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, Malaysia, Croatia, Portugal and more!
So, how can you do it too?
Here are my top tips for how to quit your 9 to 5 and travel the world full time.
Get Comfortable With Discomfort.
Every step of my journey to this freedom lifestyle was uncomfortable and it still is. I’m constantly stretching myself beyond my comfort zone, because that’s the only way to grow. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and push the boundaries.
Whether you’re just starting a business or scaling to six figures, being uncomfortable is part of being an entrepreneur. It’s scary, but it’s also what makes this path so exciting!
Bonus Tip: Focus on what you know. Although I was new to design, I did know sales and marketing, and those were the skills I used to successfully launch my business. Focus on your strengths and build new skills as you grow your business.
Be Unstoppable.
What this really comes down to is mindset. If you want to build a sustainable lifestyle around your business, you have to see it as a six or seven figure business from day one (not a side hustle or something you do for extra cash).
More importantly, you have to see yourself as a six or seven figure entrepreneur. When I first started, I truly believed I was building a six figure business. I had no clue about how I was going to get there, but I believed it! If you want to quit your 9 to 5 and travel, the first step is believing it’s possible.

From the beginning, my marketing, web design and onboarding process were all designed to look like a six figure business, even if I wasn’t making that yet. Set up your systems for success from day one and you’ll already be a step ahead.

Being unstoppable also means you won’t let anything stand in your way. As an entrepreneur, you will inevitably face obstacles. Your business will have ups and downs and you may not always get the support you need from the people around you.
With an unstoppable mindset, these things won’t hold you back. You will keep going and keep trying until you see success–and eventually you will, I promise!
